My whiteboard is very small, and too often when I am modeling problems, I block students' view of the front of the class. This hinders them from staying with me, especially for students who need more time. On top of that, I have to erase the board after each practice problem. Being forced to write on the whiteboard with dry erase markers, direct instruction is confined to me being at the front of the class..."the sage on the stage." I will be able to be among the young learners, integrate myself more into the classroom environment to meet the individual needs of students, and collaborate with them on a horizontal level. With this iPad, I will be able to seamlessly save and post all of the work that we do in class so that students who were absent or those who do best with additional practice can easily catch up. My students will be able to take advantage of all the science education apps that Apple has to offer: Touch Surgery will allow them to perform digital surgery; The Elements will provide students with tangible, real-world applications of the periodic table. The 21st century requires that people be adept in technology. The only opportunity that many of my students will have to sharpen their tech skills is at school. My students deserve this iPad.
