Poverty and mobility are two key factors that contribute to students trauma which in turn affects students ability to learn and grow. I have had many hours of professional development that have taught me what students who suffer from traumatic life experiences need to level the playing field with getting them to learn. Learning about how trauma affects my students and how their brain develops is crucial in my educational career. Comfort corners are a place within the classroom setting that allow students to self-regulate and calm themselves. I've learned about specific tools students need for these comfort corners. It only makes sense to try to apply for some of these tools to help my students with trauma and self-regulation. The bean bag chairs and stools are both important tools for the comfort corner. The stools allow students to rock back and forth or side to side. The bean bag chairs are just comfortable seating for students to calm down. The Aromatherapy machine and oils have been scientifically proven to help students calm down as well. The other tools and sand are items that students can interact with to also help them de-escalate and calm themselves, which is the important thing to do while in a comfort corner.
