We will be studying the "Hero's Journey" and students will learn what it takes to be a hero- that even the most unknown can save the day. The Lightning Thief mixes action with passion and the characterization of someone who has no idea the possibilities that lay before him. We will mesh this novel with Greek Mythology and compare Percy Jackson to various characters through the myths told by the Greeks. The Hero's Journey is critical to understanding how mythology is built, especially Greek mythology. Students will compare and contrast Percy Jackson's adventures to those of actual mythological characters from the past.
