I am hoping that with a choice in seating, balance balls, stools, and bouncy bands for desks, I will be able to foster more flexibility in my classroom that allows students to work in an environment that is best for their individual learning needs. The simple movement that children will partake in as they move to their seat of choice will stimulate their brains and allow for more on task and focused behaviors. I teach ELA which encompasses Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Word Study instruction. I also teach inquiry based Science. When teaching struggling learners from difficult backgrounds, you have to take into account their needs. Flex seating helps foster their learning style and allows them to choose where and how they learn. It is impossible to teach a student who is already struggling when they can't stay focused. A flexible seating arrangement that provides choice, promotes brain-based learning and helps them maintain focus. The end goal is learning and growth. If a student needs to move, fidget, or bounce to do so, then I want to provide that opportunity to them!
