In my classroom, we have a few special needs students that are mainstreamed into the classroom. These students as well as the rest of the class often have moments of frustration and anger and need a safe space to deal with their emotions. I have created a calm down station in the classroom for these students to visit when they need to take a few minutes to cool down. At the calm down station I will have stress balls, kinetic sand, fidgets, a journal, a sand timer, and reminders of ways to calm down. The other supplies are binder dividers for reading assessment binders in which I keep materials to assess the students' reading fluency and comprehension throughout the year. I need to divide up the reading passages by reading level (aa-z). I have three binders-one for master copies, one for student copies, and one for teacher running records.
