I teach 2nd grade in Lawrence, KS. Our school serves a diverse population of students, with a wide variety of socio-economic statuses, cultures, and languages. When students walk into my room each morning, they bring with them their own set of issues and concerns. Those concerns may range from stress at home or stress about forgetting to wear tennis shoes on gym day! My role as a teacher is to address all these concerns, no matter the size, and make my students feel safe and happy. My school has a very strong, supportive community of parents and families. When students enter school, they need to feel safe and the community of staff and teachers here work hard daily to create a safe, equitable, encouraging, and loving environment so that our students can be successful.
