I chose two carpets and pillows to allow my students to learn in comfortable and flexible ways. They will be able to use these all day long during a variety of activities and lessons. Children are not designed to sit in chairs all day long, and that is why I use flexible seating. It allows my students to stretch and move, all while keeping their attention. Instead of using poor posture in an uncomfortable plastic chair, I would like for my students to have the option of sitting with comfortable pillows or on a rug. I also choose another rug that is a map, so that students can reenact the major events in America's history, like the exploration of Henry Hudson or the Trail of Tears. Additionally both rugs will be used as meeting places during Read Alouds, Reading and Writing Lessons, as well as our Morning Meeting. Please help make our classroom a more comfortable, enjoyable and movement-oriented classroom.
