I am a math teacher at Madison High School, in Portland. Madison is one of nine comprehensive high schools in the Portland Public School District and is one of the most diverse high schools in Oregon. My classroom is full of lively young adults from all different races, cultures, and backgrounds. 71% of my students are black or brown, 37% receive special education services, 13% are English Language Learners, and 7% are covered under Title X. My classes are energetic and full of life. I try to engage my students in hands on activities and learning experiences. I use manipulatives and games as often as I can in order to increase engagement and enhance learning.
