These text sets will spark a high level of engagement for the students. The students will learn about events and themes such as The Civil Rights Movement, the Great Depression, homelessness, survival, cultural awareness, racism, family, and perseverance through investigations stemming from their literature circles. Respecting the integrity of the students by providing resources that are culturally relevant is the reason this project is so important. My students engage in literature circles. Literature circles provide structure for reading, responding to, and discussing a piece of literature. Throughout the first semester, students will engage in their own literature circles. My students need class sets of books to read during literature circles in the first semester.
