The purpose of implementing an iPad cross categorically in the classroom is to a) enhance students usage of technology b) provide hands-on activities outside of gaming that give students experience with how the iPad, its applications and students’ analysis and manipulations can be used in real-world professions and explorations c) allow students to take responsibility for their learning by providing multiple options as assessments for learning, which students will document and review in real-time. The inclusion of an iPad in the classroom would be used to enhance literacy by allowing students to document their literature circle and guided reading activities through the creation of video assignments such as movie trailers, interviews, and documentaries that serve as alternative assessments of their learning. In science, students would use the iPad to record science labs, review and analyze data, access additional resources through apps and interactive searches, and create models and simulations through computer coding to interpret and explore their understanding of specific NGSS standards. With this goal, I would like to see an increase in students’ college/career readiness interests in STEM areas. Also, through this technology enhancement in the curriculum, students’ increased level of inquiry could be observed through their depths of questioning and research history. More specific, I believe the technology inclusion would have positive results on monthly formative reading assessments, quarterly formative science assessments, and yearly summative assessments in both areas.
