At our school, students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, but they are similar in economic backgrounds as100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse public schools in the Jackson area. We are honored and often challenged to teach student who are English speakers, Spanish speakers, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic and some speak a variety of African languages. This diversity in culture also leads to a diversity in the experience they bring to the classroom and in their approach to academics. Therefore, we have learned to become very innovative in our approaches designed to meet each child where he/she is. Our students do not have the resources that other public schools in more affluent suburbs do, but as educators, we work to make sure that their education is not lacking because of inadequate resources.
