Many of our students walk to school. Atlanta has beautiful weather, but when it rains it pours. Most of our students do not own umbrellas or ponchos so we observe them coming through the doors in the morning soaked. Imagine having to sit at your desk trying to learn while wearing clothing drenched from the rain. This leads to coughs and colds, which increases absenteeism. When one child in the classroom gets a cold, it can quickly pass to others. We applaud our students' desire to attend school, and we want to make it easier on days when we have liquid sunshine. Through this funding, our students will be like Gene Kelly in the musical "Singing in the Rain": they will have happy faces.
