These materials are greatly needed in order for this new generation of students to succeed in the classroom. All of these items will be used to make up a sensory area in our classroom so students who need a break due to emotional and behavioral needs will have a place to go to feel safe. I am doing this project in hopes of making my classroom feel more safe and comforting to my students. I am hoping this will be able to help calm students down and minimize behavior problems in the classroom by giving them a place they feel comfortable in. This will help them be more successful in the classroom, if I am able to meet the needs of the different culture and diversity in my classroom. I have a range of materials to help my students. I have weighted stuffed animals to help with the calm down process, the weight helps with pressure to the body to help calm a child down. There are many materials that are used for students who cannot sit still or need to be more active. Bouncy bands allow children to sit in their sits and learn while using the band to actively move their feet, helping them keep their focus and still be able to move. The fidgets help with this as well, students are able to keep their hands busy, which eliminates their impulse to get up and move. The bouncy ball chair is also another good material for this. It allows the students to bounce and listen at the same time. I prefer to use timers that the children can start and stop, this way they feel they are in control of their time and can see how much time they have.
