The items will be used to enhance their fine motor skills as well as their language and learning skills. These items, such as the blocks, puzzles and snap-bots, will go home in a baggie with directions for the child to work with their parents. These items will build a learning community from school to home and back to school. Therefore, the students will be able to use the tripod grasp as well as hold other manipulatives appropriately as they manipulate, explore and experiment with the items. In school, the students will be able to manipulate small objects such as holding and writing with a pencil, crayon, chalk or a pen, even painting with a paint brush. The students will be able to communicate with others as they share their experiences. These skills will be essential in moving on to Kindergarten, as the students become more verbal and independent.
