This carpet would be the center of our learning environment. It will define our meeting space with students sometimes sitting in rows, and other times sitting in a large circle. The carpet would also be used for students to read independently, and to work with a partner. Everyone knows 6 and 7 year olds have a limited attention span, right? Well it's even worse when they are physically uncomfortable! I want these children to have a comfortable place to sit so that they can focus on their learning. The nice thing about a carpet like this is that it also defines the space. When I say "circle on the carpet" or "carpet spots" they will know where to go, and their brains will already be setting for learning something. The carpet has nice divided spaces so that all students will have their very own spot. Having a good carpet for our primary learning space will help these students by defining the space and providing a comfortable place to sit. My students will benefit by being more focused because they are more comfortable. I always make a big deal about Donors Choose contributions! They learn that people outside our classroom care about them, and care about their learning. One of their responsibilities as a citizen is to learn all they can, and people care enough to help them do that.
