In my classroom I have one low-speed desktop computer which my students take turns using. When using the desktop, they use educational websites such as Starfall.com to practice their alphabet, sight words, vocabulary, and early reading skills. However, since there is only one desktop it becomes very difficult for each of my students to get a turn. Additionally, since there is only one desktop computer, when we have to conduct research to write informational essays, I have to conduct the research for them and give them print outs. This is not allowing my students to gain the skills they need for this 21st century technology driven society. Many of my third grade English Language Learners do not have access to 21st century technology with internet at home. This makes it difficult for them to use technology for educational purposes beyond school hours. Because of this, I would like to get alaptop and headset so that I can increase the amount of time that my students have in the classroom to use technology.
