My students will have additional access to the stories we are focusing on with books for each title. The printer will allow me to produce manipulatives which will incorporate speech/language, cognitive, motor, and socialization skills into each unit. As my students gain more of these age appropriate skills, they will be another step closer to being on target with their peers. As preschoolers with special needs, my students deserve every advantage from an early intervention classroom. We use the Read It Once Again curriculum units for several titles, but do not have classroom copies of the books. Having paper copies of the books is important to the foundational skills necessary for development of early literacy skills. The curriculum also requires us to make color copies, which we would print on cardstock and laminate for durability. These copies will allow the children to label objects, repeat familiar words and phrases, sequence stories, demonstrate visual discrimination, identify numbers, demonstrate visual memory skills, and classify objects. The copies will also allow the students opportunities to match, sort, and name colors and shapes. Having the books and the materials to reinforce learning age appropriate skills will give my students a strong foundation for future literacy.
