Flexible seating allows students to make decisions about how they learn and work best. My English learners may choose a standard classroom chair, a balance ball chair, or a new wobble stool to sit on while they engage in small group instruction and collaborative work. This flexible seating option will give students a break from sitting still and upright at a desk all day. Flexible seating options will encourage students to have a voice in designing their learning environment. Students can begin to advocate for their own learning even at the elementary level. Creating spaces where children have a voice and a choice can motivate students to learn.
