Many of my students face life long struggles, such as poverty, hunger, and foster care, that significantly impact their learning abilities. Sadly, their most recent set back was the flood in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. The schools I service are title one schools; however, there are no funds for special education programs. My students have a range communication deficits in one or more area of articulation, voice, fluency, and or language, occurring primary or secondary to a range of disabilities (Traumatic Brain Injury, Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities, Apraxia of Speech, Other Health Impairments...). Since they are, already at a disadvantage when it comes to thriving in school, limited technology (IPADs) means that my students will miss out on meaningful and engaging instruction in the speech therapy setting.
