This is my fourth year using interactive notebooks, and I cannot express how grateful I am for them! I teach at a low-income, very diverse school, and interactive notebooks are great way for me to accommodate for many different learners. Whether we are illustrating different scientific processes, graphing lab data, or cutting and pasting in pop-up graphics of scientific content, my students are always taking pride in their notebooks! Though these notebooks have been such a huge part of my classroom throughout my career, paying for the supplies has turned into a major hardship due to budget cuts and less money available for lab materials. I am hoping that this project funding will help free up funds for chemicals and other lab needs. I truly believe in the power of interactive notebooks based on seeing my students continually grow and interact with their learning. Many of my students have limited access to the Internet at home, and our school can only provide a class set of textbooks which must stay in the classroom. These composition notebooks enable students to take ownership in their learning by enabling them to essentially create their own textbook to study. The tape, colored pencils, and glue sticks are also very effective in teaching students how to take notes and organize new information in a fun, constructive way. Interactive notebooks, along with differentiated instruction, helps me reach ALL of my students, regardless of their current reading level, background, or language. Please help if you can!
