I am a music teacher at a rural public school in a high poverty area. Grades K-3 have classes in general music, while grade 4 learns to play recorders. Grade 5 has general music and has beginning band classes, while grade 6 has intermediate band classes, and grades 7/8 combine for advanced band classes. Our elementary music program has only been revived for the past three years after a very long hiatus, and we are rebuilding the program from scratch. It's a challenge, but it's also a pleasure to teach such engaged and enthusiastic students. I feel truly blessed to teach a subject so close to my heart, and to have so much fun every school day!
