My PK-2 students value the art of instrument playing over most of the activities we do in class. I am working to build a diverse collection of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments so that I have one of each kind for every student to play at the same time. With the increasing focus on S.T.E.A.M. activities in our school, a solid collection of percussion instruments will give my students hands-on experience learning about the science of sound and how to manipulate it based on instrument size and method of sound production. I would like to see my growing collection of instruments used more in future grade level performances. We were able to highlight four different instruments in our first ever Dr. Seuss program this year on the first grade level. However, due to our low instrument supply, I could only have one class out of five perform on the program number that included instrument parts. I am requesting a class set of Hand Drums for my students.
