The students in my classroom are students with disabilities and the majority from low-income families. When we have new items in our classroom or projects, their eyes light up with excitement. My students will be able to put their hands on new books, imagine the world around them, and explore new genres and topics with these books. Reading comprehension is difficult for a lot of these students and research has shown that interactive read aloud allow students to think critically, develop vocabulary, dissect plot and character motivations, and bring joy to their lives with amazing illustrations tied into the plot.
