Better mouthpieces, quality reeds, and quality valve oil help middle school band students achieve their goals, enjoy class and practice time more, and take more pride in their learning. Quality materials will make a huge difference in both the physical and cognitive development of band students, as the proper materials allow for easier airflow, less instrument malfunctions, and an overall better sound. With the necessary materials, my hardworking students will be able to remove the obstacle of poor equipment and achieve more success in their music learning. Currently, students in my classes play on factory mouthpieces that are constricted and hard to push air through, and reeds that have a short lifespan and less-than-desirable tone. Materials purchased through this project will not only help students sound better, but also afford them the confidence needed to continue their journey in band.
