I currently have a rug that is really icky and too small to fit all of my students. A new classroom rug would give them a perfect spot for independent reading other than their desks. Another advantage is that small groups of students will be able to spread out and work on projects together. Finally, the rug can also be used during other times of the day such as morning meeting, read alouds, whole group mini-lessons or as a space for students who are having a tricky time and find themselves needing alternative seating. I purchased several lap desks for those students to use. With a new rug, students will be able to get what they need and will be enthusiastic about getting to work.
