The girls in leadership positions of the club had the amazing idea to host Brooklyn Tech’s first-ever hack-a-thon. They have been working tirelessly to make it happen! #TechHacks will be a school-wide, student-led hack-a-thon hosted here at Brooklyn Tech, in efforts to get students at our school to pursue computer science and other STEM-related fields. Students will participate in teams to build their own programs and projects, all while learning about programming. A hack-a-thon is typically one or two days long--we are planning an 8-9 hour bonanza! Students will gather in the morning around a common goal, and they will collaborate on solutions like web-based projects and applications throughout the day. In addition to collaborative programming, we will have speakers and workshop leaders from the tech industry to inspire students and assist them with their projects. Workshop leaders will choose the winners at the closing ceremonies. No experience is necessary--there will be prizes for both newbie coders and those more advanced. Many refreshments and complimentary items--known as swag--are usually available. #TechHacks is dedicated to serving the students of our school, and providing more immersive, creative modes of computer science education outside of the classroom. The event is being hosted by the Girls Who Code chapter at our school and we encourage students of all experience levels to collaborate on projects in a safe space. We encourage individuals, especially girls, femmes, and people of color, to attend this hack-a-thon, regardless of their experience level. This is a great opportunity for many students to attend their first-ever hack-a-thon. We need your help in getting prizes, food, and other materials for the big day. Please donate!
