I am in the process of creating a flexible seating environment in my classroom. You may be wondering what flexible seating is. Well, I have the answer for you! Flexible seating is where students are able to sit comfortably in the classroom in order to enhance their academic performance. Flexible seating options include; stools, yoga mats, exercise balls, scoop seats, bean bags, lap desks, pillows & several other options. The benefits include; higher academic performance, better attention & focus, calorie burn & energy expenditure, less restlessness, improved core strength & posture & improved participation & behavior. Rules for Flexible seating: Students choose a seat where they learn best. It will be referred to as their "smart spot". Students must use the seats the right way. If a spot is not working, students may be asked to move so that they can do their best.
