These books will be made available for students to take home, some will be read to the students in class followed by a discussion, and some will be read as a group. Many of my students are recent immigrants and do not have the money to buy their own books. In addition, I want my students to have books in their native languages so that they can grow in both English and their native language. The research overwhelming shows that students who receive native language support succeed in English much quicker than their peers. With these books made available to them, they will be able to grow in their native languages while also growing in acquiring English. Similarly, having books in their native language allows for more family time in the home. If families cannot afford or access books for their children in their native language, the family loses out on time spent reading together.
