Students sitting at tables will be more comfortable working with partners and in groups. Tables are more conducive to collaboration than individual desks. When adults attend conferences, we sit at tables. Can you imagine adults sitting in individual desks and trying to collaborate on a project? Learning should be student-centered and gathering at tables lends itself to increasing student-student learning. Tables are used for small group instruction which often separates some special needs students as “different “. By using only tables in the classroom no student needs to feel different based on where they sit. As a teacher, it is very easy to move from group to group rather than desk to desk.
