I am trying to teach my students that black history isn't something we only teach in February. I recently completed a seminar with Max Brooks and he has promised that if we teach this book and about these brave men in our classroom he will Skype with our students and answer any questions they may have. Meeting an author they love and learning an important historical lesson would be an asset for my students. Coming from such a poor community there are not always a lot of opportunities for my students to participate in fun activities like meeting their favorite author, this would give them that opportunity. This new graphic novel will also help them engage in the content since so many of my students love comic books.
