My high school and my students are part of a rural public school in a small town in Iowa. My classroom allows for my students to have ownership of their learning by providing the students with options and a voice. Because of this, I know one area that my classroom lacks is that of current and relevant novels for students to connect to. While we are not a very diverse school, it's important to still expose my students to the diversity of the world and that can happen through books.
