Second grade has many writing CCSS standards to teach and How To writing is going to be mastered with cooking food in the classroom. Using the convection oven once a month and our math skills we will create a yummy treat based on a story we are reading from our ELA curriculum. Once finished, we will write, in sequential order, how we made our treat. Detailing our writing with measured amounts of ingredients and sequencing the order of events will allow students to build key elements of their writing. This will include grammar, sentence structure, and conventions. All cultures come together by sharing food so I am combining the love of food with writing! These life building skills will stay with my students forever!
