My students are constantly asking me if we can read books about real people who have done amazing things. They see opportunities to do amazing things as dreams far out of their reach. I have selected two nonfiction novels, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and I Am Malala that I believe will be both engaging and inspirational tales about achieving the impossible. My hope is that these nonfiction texts will not only engage them as readers, but will also be used as vessels to help them see that they are not that different from the heroes in these texts, and that they too can make a difference in this world.
