My school has a good school library, and there is a good public library across the street. However, many of my students have never set foot in either of these places. They aren't "readers." They are intimidated and unsure of themselves in places filled with books with strange numerical codes on the spines. You can help fill this void by supporting our classroom library with high interest literature! By having books readily available for my students I can encourage daily reading habits and thereby increase reading stamina. I'm not throwing out the classics; they read plenty of classics in high school. I'm advocating for more reading, period. I want my students to find their reading passion whether it is mysteries, southern literature, poetry, or dystopian literature.
