Students like to feel secure and safe. My students can easily get excited with too much stimulation. They need a place to go and be calm by getting a book read to them or looking at a book. They also need a place that they can go to by themselves if they feel like the environment or situation they are in is getting too intense. It is important for all students, no matter what their ability, to be introduced to books at an early age. Having a nice, positive, calm area apart from the rest of the room will give my students a chance to view books they enjoy while focusing on their sensory input and making sure they have a place to come to when they would like their minds or body to calm down. They need the requested reading nook.

About my class
