Many of my students cannot afford a graphing calculator of their own. Having a class set of colored graphing calculators will allow my students to explore mathematics visually. For example, what happens to the graph of y=|x| if you change it to y=|x+3| or y=|x|+3? Students can graph the different functions in different colors and make connections that they can apply to any functions. Students learn much better when they can discover ideas themselves, instead of trying to memorize abstract concepts. With a class set of calculators, my students can excel in not only my classroom, but take this tool into their mathematical journey today and for years to come! The calculators will allow them to grow their passion for mathematics and see how it is applicable in their everyday lives.
