I teach at a high poverty, low performing school in Winston Salem, North Carolina. First grade is an essential time for my students, as they develop and strengthen their reading comprehension and writing skills. My students face many challenges in and out of the classroom. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students come from single parent households, lack basic necessities, and receive little help or support at home. My goal is to meet their emotional and physical needs to get through the day, while fostering a love for reading and learning that will last a lifetime!
