Do you ever remember that feeling when your teacher handed you a book and said "Read chapters 1-5 by tomorrow" or "Everyone get out their reading book and start silent reading on page 175"? Do you remember feeling bored before you even began, simply dreading what was to come? I know I do! Many of our students already feel the same way and at such a young age. My goal is to get rid of the negative stigma many kids have towards reading, and you can help! Many students see a class set of books and immediately shut down. With your donation of these books, you are helping to engage in the content and learn that reading is fun and can fill them with knowledge! You are helping create lifelong readers! You are giving them a choice and a voice in their learning! How empowering! Not only are you helping students who don't enjoy reading, you're giving students who need to be pushed a little bit further a chance to expand their knowledge base! (This helps get rid of that "Ugh . . . I already know this" feeling some of our advanced kids go through!) I am passionate about challenging all children and believe that the addition of these books will help engage, challenge, and enrich all of my students! The books I have requested supplement science, social studies, and science as well as the specific interests of many of my reluctant readers.
