My students have moderate intellectual disabilities. Most of my students also have other obstacles to overcome, such as autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and fine and gross motor issues. Some of my students are quite verbal while others communicate through single word utterances. One of my students with autism cannot communicate with words, but uses signs or a computerized device to make his wants known. But none of these obstacles, whether they are physical, financial, or communicative, can dampen the spirits of these amazing kids. Each day is filled with laughter, friendship, learning and exploring.
