My scholars come from very diverse backgrounds. Some walk into my room without knowing any English, which makes learning, conceptualizing and retaining information challenging. All children deserve the same opportunities to learn within an instructional environment regardless of their initial levels or backgrounds. I firmly believe that scholars will greatly benefit from the non-fiction texts, globes and maps. The globes and maps will give them physical visual representation of what the world looks like around them. The non-fiction texts will provide insight into different cultures around the world. The pictures will provide visual clarity and reference. My hope is for my students to make connections to themselves, the text and the world.
