I have been introduced by other teachers in my grade level and different teacher blogs I have read, to flexible seating. Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to move around, with out getting up and roaming around the room and distract others. By having flexible seating, my students will be growing, not only academically, but also emotionally, and physically- by strengthening their core with the anti burst balls, wobble chairs, etc. Students in my 3rd grade classroom will be using these alternative methods of seating, to optimize their learning. Students that are given choices, are more successful. By using flexible seating in the classroom, students will optimize their learning experiences, as well as give them the opportunity to assess their environment and make positive choices. The flexible seating will be used all day in the classroom (7 hours). Instead of the conventional seating, the wobble chairs, anti burst balls (aka yoga balls), and wobble cushions will serve as their seating at their desks and tables. It is my belief that by strengthening the WHOLE child, learning will take place to the ultimate level! With this, test scores will increase and you will be helping to physically, and mentally, the whole child...our future!
