Our classroom is set up into multiple stations where learning is always in the forefront. One of the stations that the students enjoy the most is our computer station. In this station we have 2 very old desktops that may or may not run depending on how they "feel" on a particular day. On a good day they are very slow and the students can get frustrated while waiting. Last week, one of the desktops finally bit the dust! Our school does not have the money to replace any computers in our classroom. My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many of them, non-English speakers, who truly benefit from educational websites for kids that help with learning another language. Also, many students are from low-income families where a computer is not present in the home. So, it is important that these students are immersed in as much technology as they can while at school. The computer station is a great help to ALL of our students. The educational websites provide another outlet for students to learn. Learning phonics skills, reading and comprehension skills, math skills, and the overall understanding of how to navigate while using a computer are essential to their success!
