We are a class of 4 year olds, with all students turning 5 by the end of January. My Transitional Kindergarten class is part of a 2 year Kindergarten program. Instead of starting off Kindergarten as the youngest students this year, my students will be starting off Kindergarten as one of the oldest and most prepared students next year. Transitional Kindergarten gives my students an extra year to develop mentally, physically and emotionally. My Goal for my class every year is that we learn to read through explicit and systematic instruction by segmenting and blending letter sounds. I emphasize my instruction in letter sounds through writing and manipulating letters. Furthermore, students learn through hands-on and interactive activities including technology. It is my goal that my students enter Kindergarten as leaders, readers, and highly confident in their ability to function in the Kindergarten setting.
