We want to create a safe environment for students to come and calm down and deescalate from a challenging situation. Our students do not always handle their feelings appropriately and we want to provide them with a safe place to breathe, learn, and grow! Our mindfulness room will have soft lighting, relaxing music and an adult in the room to help students sit or lie down, close their eyes and learn breathing techniques to help them calm their mind and body. We hope to have fidget toys to calm anxiety, yoga balls to calm restlessness, and mats and rugs of various shapes and sizes that will aid in the practice of deep breathing and meditation. We would love to have a radio to help us play relaxing, instrumental music; as well as lava and salt lamps to give our kiddos permission to just kind of "tune out" for a short amount of time. After the student has reached a state of calm, we will help walk them through the reasons behind their reactions and how they can change their reaction in the future.
