My students range in reading levels from very basic beginner readers to students who can read 2-3 years above grade level. Research shows that students need to have quality reading modeled to them. This increases their vocabulary, corrects grammar usage and teaches reading fluency. However, with so many different reading levels, it is difficult to allow students to listen to reading without interrupting those around them. Our school cannot afford to provide high quality ear phones. We currently have very inexpensive ear buds, but they do not fit in my little student's ears. It would be amazing to have over the head earphones so that I can differentiate the reading passages that each student listens to.
