My students all have special needs that affect their ability to learn in various ways. I am asking for four timers, a complete set of Feel & Find Sensory Tubs, ten hearing protectors, a weighted vest, a weighted lap pad, and sets of Tactile Letters and Numbers. The items I have requested will support my students' concentration when they are feeling overstimulated by either increasing or decreasing sensory input. The noise cancelling headphones, for example, are an excellent way for a student who is easily distracted to focus on their work, or for a student with autism spectrum disorder to drown out noise. The weighted vests and lap pads promote self-calming from the sensory feedback they provide to the child. This, in turn, can help the child sustain concentration. The visual timers have many uses; they can help a child transition from a preferred activity to a non-preferred activity, they can promote independence by telling a child when it is time to move to the next activity, and they can increase the sense of control a child by helping them understand how long they have to engage in an activity and seeing that there will be an end.
