I teach in a small, rural school district in which many of my students' families do not regularly shop online, nor do they have immediate access to the major chain sports stores such as Dick's or Academy. To help ensure the health of safety of my extremely hard working marching band students, they would benefit tremendously by having hydration backpacks for use during marching rehearsals. Marching Band is a major part of my students' lives and they are very dedicated to making their marching band the best it can be--always striving to become better than the day before. As a result of this dedication and motivation to be the best, my students will often refrain from taking water breaks as needed on their own in between the scheduled full group water & cool down breaks. By each student having a hydration backpack on them during rehearsals, they will be able to rehydrate whenever they need it. They can continue having fun and learning without having to make the decision between stopping to get water or risking a possible heat related injury by pushing themselves too far by choosing to wait until the next full group water break to rehydrate. (Please Note: My students are given frequent full group water & cool down breaks during all outdoor rehearsals, and are encouraged to take as many individual water breaks as needed to remain hydrated and healthy during marching band.)
