Every year, students and their teachers are racing against the calendar and the clock to find time to fit in all standards to a level of mastery. Unfortunately, when it comes to finding time during the day to fit in all of the necessary material, the first thing to get cut is science and social studies. These lessons are incredibly important for students to become aware of the world around them, but they also expose students to information they genuinely find fascinating. Scholastic News is a fabulous resource that allows students to read and interact with articles about current events that align with science, social studies, and ELA standards. Integration of science and social studies within our reading block is one of the best ways for students to be exposed to high interest and relevant information. Scholastic News is a great vehicle for this information to be delivered to students, while also giving them a way to practice literacy skills that are so necessary for their success in school and in life. I am asking for 30 subscriptions to Scholastic News for use with both my class and with intervention groups I will be working with throughout the school day.
