Every day our learners are taking steps to build skills that not only support them academically, but behaviorally and socially emotionally. Many of these skills are what they will carry on through life. At our 3 elementary schools we are working to teach functional skills and that includes cooking. Cooking Club meets our students' needs in more ways than one. Cooking club teaching them how to follow directions step by step, time management and multi-tasking. It teaches our students how to measure and pay attention to their task. We also work on language skills, manners, and communicating and working with others. In Cooking Club they work on brainstorming, planning, and they get creative. Our students are often trying new foods and many of them are healthy! Cooking Club provides our students who typically struggle in the academic setting an opportunity to learn functional skills, feel success and be proud of what they have created.
