These materials will give my students a chance to see life through the eyes of a stranger. In middle school, students are so quick to judge. These books will teach my students to be grateful for what they have, as well as empathetic towards others. The Breadwinner follows the life of an eleven year old girl (around the same age as my students) as she struggles to provide for her family in Afghanistan, during Taliban rule. Although the main character, Parvana, is around the same age as my students, her life is dramatically different. This will show them that conditions beyond your control can completely dictate your life. Instead of judging others based on ethnicity or religion, this book will teach them to look and listen with compassion. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. "Be Kind; Everyone You Meet is Fighting a Hard Battle"
